As we welcome spring, the precinct is blooming with new gardens and enhanced greenery. Over the past few weeks, our teams have been hard at work ensuring that Riverhorse Valley remains not only clean and well-maintained but also more vibrant with fresh plantings and improved landscapes.
Planting New Gardens and Garden Maintenance Spring has given us the perfect opportunity to refresh and expand our green spaces. The teams have been actively working on new garden installations and replanting efforts, particularly around Island Circle and Musa Dladla Road. Following the reinstatement of the East irrigation system, we removed plumbago plants along Island Circle to prepare for the introduction of new plant species. The embankment along the N2 South behind Umpheme House has also been cleared, addressing an area that had not been maintained by Sanral and posed potential risks.
Alien Invasive Control As part of our ongoing efforts to manage invasive species, our teams completed full boundary cuts and collected 392 bags of litter over the past three weeks. This work is vital in preserving the health of our local ecosystems and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the precinct.
Focused Areas for Improvement A site visit with Servest Management took place this month as part of their performance management process. We identified key areas for improvement, focusing on:
- Hedge Trimming at Imvubu Park Place
- Ongoing Hedge Installation at Hippo Park Avenue
- Garden Replanting with New Species at Island Circle
- Grass Cutting and Compost Application at Hippo Park Avenue
These targeted efforts ensure that we not only maintain but continually enhance the green spaces in Riverhorse Valley. The combination of new plantings, careful maintenance, and strategic improvements has already made a noticeable difference as we step into the new season.
