Municipal repairs and Metro Police presence strengthen precinct operations

Municipal Services, Safety and Security

August marked another productive month in Riverhorse Valley, with a continued focus on municipal service delivery and law enforcement support. Thanks to collaborative efforts with eThekwini Municipality, SAPS, and Metro Police, the precinct maintained operational momentum while addressing key infrastructure needs.

Municipal progress: 19 service faults resolved

A total of 19 faults were successfully resolved in August through coordination with various eThekwini Municipality departments. These included:

  • Pothole repairs across key routes

  • Traffic light maintenance and repairs

  • Streetlight functionality improvements

  • Road marking refreshes

  • Water and sewer leak repairs

  • General electrical work

Streetlighting remains a priority, with functionality currently at 70%. Active engagements with the Electrical Department are ongoing, with the goal of achieving 90% operational coverage in the months ahead — a crucial step in ensuring safety and visibility across the precinct.

Law enforcement visibility and by-law support

Metro Police maintained a visible presence throughout the precinct, particularly along Queen Nandi Drive, where regular operations and support for by-law enforcement were carried out in collaboration with the precinct management team. These activities have been instrumental in promoting order, addressing traffic obstructions, and assisting with enforcement where needed.

SAPS presence further bolstered security efforts, providing an added layer of visibility and deterrence within public open spaces.

Riverhorse Valley continues to benefit from close working relationships with both municipal departments and law enforcement agencies. While key progress has been made, RHVBEMA remains committed to tracking service delivery, escalating outstanding faults, and reinforcing safety initiatives across the precinct.
