Infrastructure updates and traffic management in Riverhorse Valley

In the past month, eThekwini Municipality and Metro Police have been active in Riverhorse Valley, addressing infrastructure and traffic-related issues to improve safety and functionality within the precinct.

Municipal Service Updates

Municipal services have resolved several reported faults, including:

  • Pothole Repairs on Prince Umhlangane Road: The long-awaited pothole repairs were completed following the resolution of the ongoing sewer leak. Despite delays caused by wet weather, these repairs mark a significant improvement for road users in the area.

  • Streetlight Repairs: The Electricity Department attended to streetlight issues across various locations, ensuring better visibility and safety during night hours.

Our Management Association remains in close contact with eThekwini Municipality to report new faults and follow up on outstanding issues to ensure continued progress in the precinct.

Metro Police Activities

Metro Police have been actively addressing challenges related to illegal parking and truck obstructions in the precinct:

  • Corobrick Road and Imvubu Park Place: Metro Police responded to reports of illegally parked trucks causing obstructions and took steps to clear the areas.
  • Illegal Ranking Activities: Police addressed illegal ranking and parking activities in Quarry Park Place and Imvubu Park Close.
  • Stop-and-Search Operations: Metro Police conducted stop-and-search operations along Queen Nandi Drive, contributing to increased visibility and law enforcement presence in the precinct.

Management Engagement with Authorities

The Management Team held a meeting with Metro Police and the eThekwini Transport Authority (ETA) – Public Transport division to discuss the lack of designated ranking spaces, which is contributing to ongoing illegal parking and ranking issues. A follow-up meeting is planned, involving additional ETA departments, to explore solutions for these challenges.

SANRAL Bridge Maintenance

The Geo Group, a SANRAL-appointed contractor, continued its work on the maintenance and testing of bridges. This week, the team focused on the N2 bridge running behind Imvubu Park. These ongoing efforts are critical to ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the precinct’s bridges.

These efforts reflect the continued commitment to addressing the needs of the precinct and ensuring Riverhorse Valley remains safe, efficient, and well-managed.
