Improving roads, repairing infrastructure, and supporting safety in Riverhorse Valley

April saw continued collaboration between eThekwini Municipality, Metro Police, and the Riverhorse Valley Management Association, with steady progress made despite the challenges posed by persistent rainfall. Regular fault reporting and on-the-ground inspections have helped drive service delivery across key areas of the precinct.

Metro Police presence and by-law enforcement

Metro Police maintained a visible presence along Queen Nandi Drive during April, supporting the precinct with by-law enforcement operations. Their activities focused on promoting road safety and compliance, particularly at busy intersections.

However, obstruction caused by delivery trucks remains an ongoing concern. Trucks parking illegally and damaging verges and landscaping have a negative impact on both traffic flow and the precinct’s appearance. We encourage all members to be mindful and to schedule deliveries in a way that minimises roadside stacking and protects the precinct environment.

eThekwini Municipality service delivery

Our engagements with eThekwini Municipality departments are showing results, with several important repairs and maintenance activities completed during April:

  • Streetlight repairs were carried out at multiple points across the precinct, improving safety and visibility at night.

  • Water leak repairs helped curb water wastage and protect infrastructure integrity.

  • Traffic signal maintenance was completed at key intersections along Queen Nandi Drive.

  • Temporary pothole repairs were undertaken along Prince uMhlangane Road, improving immediate driving conditions while we await permanent repairs once weather conditions allow.

  • Stormwater drain cover replacements helped ensure safe and effective drainage, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall.

  • Barrier repairs were completed to maintain roadside safety and prevent vehicular accidents.

  • Grass cutting was conducted along key verge areas, helping to maintain neat, accessible roadsides despite accelerated vegetation growth.

Focus on pothole management

The condition of roads across Riverhorse Valley remains a priority. The heavy and frequent rainfall during April caused existing potholes to worsen, and in some cases, new potholes to form. We have escalated these concerns to the Roads Department, who have conducted preliminary inspections. A full repair programme will follow once drier conditions allow for more permanent and durable pothole repairs.

The combined efforts of our precinct management team, municipal departments, and Metro Police continue to ensure that Riverhorse Valley remains safe, operational, and well-maintained. We thank our members for their ongoing cooperation and understanding as we tackle seasonal challenges together.
