May has been a month of steady delivery and visible progress across the Riverhorse Valley precinct.
Projects Near Completion
Two key projects within the precinct are on track for completion. This includes the CCTV expansion project to strengthen surveillance coverage and security monitoring, and the removal of fever trees that have been uplifting pavements and impacting infrastructure.
On the CCTV project, the camera and kiosk box were successfully installed as planned this month. The fever tree removal project in Imvubu Park Place is nearing completion, with all but one tree successfully removed. The next phase will include the lowering of the remaining stumps.

Prince Umhlangane Road Reopens
A critical infrastructure project has been completed by the eThekwini Municipality, with the opening of Prince Umhlangane Road. The municipality finalised gabion installation and the protection of the main sewer line before the road was fully reopened to traffic. Following completion, the RHVBEMA teams removed temporary road closure signage, restoring full access and traffic flow.

17mm of Rain, Precinct Remains Clean & Maintained
Cleaning, greening, and maintenance operations continued consistently across the precinct throughout May. All contracted services remained on schedule, ensuring a high standard of upkeep. Key activities included daily cleaning and general maintenance across public spaces, and continuous monitoring and response to ad hoc maintenance requirements. We recorded 17 mm of rainfall in May, providing additional support for the irrigation systems. This month, our alien invasive control team focused on environmental sustainability, completing:
- Ongoing alien plant clearing in wetlands along Riverhorse Road
- Litter removal in affected areas
- Continued environmental rehabilitation efforts

Strong Law Enforcement Presence
Security operations remained stable throughout the month, including a security strike being called off early, with no disruption to precinct services. Metro Police and SAPS assisted with obstructions on various roads. These collaborative efforts support safety, compliance, and effective traffic management across the precinct.
Riverhorse Valley remains committed to delivering a safe, functional, and well-maintained precinct for all stakeholders.
