On 27 March, RHVBEMA CCTV controllers spotted a suspect cutting away at railway structures using a hacksaw. Upon investigation, the suspect was found cutting a lock to access a switch to cut off the electricity, enabling them to safely steal railway cables. The reaction crew proceeded to the area, apprehended the suspect, and handed him over to Rapid Rail SAPS.
The next day, RHVBEMA CCTV controllers noticed three males cutting Transnet overhead lines. The reaction crew was immediately alerted and sent to the area to investigate. The suspects fled upon our security team’s approach. The reaction crew was able to recover a roll of stolen cable which was handed over to the KZN Rapid Rail Police and Transnet Task Team.
