1,806 Bags Collected, 107mm Rainfall Recorded & New Gardens in Riverhorse Valley

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

As we approach the year-end shutdown period, the Riverhorse Valley Management Association’s cleaning, greening and maintenance teams have remained focused on ensuring the precinct is well-prepared, despite the challenges brought on by the November rains.

Clearing After 107mm of Rainfall

A total of 107mm of rainfall was recorded during November. While the precinct infrastructure remained undamaged, the uMhlangane River briefly flooded, depositing debris and sand along Hippo Park Avenue, Queen Nandi Drive, and Prince Umhlangane Road. These affected areas are currently being cleared by teams, with some sections requiring drying time before full access can resume.

Environmental teams undertook major litter clean-ups this month, particularly in sensitive areas such as the riverbanks and waterways. A total of 1,806 refuse bags were collected, along with the continued removal of alien invasive plants, which helps maintain both the aesthetics and ecological health of the precinct.

Garden Installations and Verge Maintenance

Greening efforts continued steadily, with new gardens installed at Quarry Park, contributing to the precinct’s visual upliftment. Verge grass cutting and tree trimming were also prioritised, with a particular focus on keeping CCTV sightlines clear for improved safety.

Prepping for Year-End

With many businesses preparing to close for the year-end, the RHVMA teams are taking proactive steps to ensure all public spaces are clean, green, and presentable. This includes intensified maintenance along key routes and continuous monitoring of rain-affected areas.

We thank all our members for their continued support as we prepare the precinct for a safe and well-maintained year-end shutdown period.
