September’s wet weather conditions created additional maintenance demands across the precinct, but RHVBEMA teams continued to deliver consistently high standards across all service areas.
A total of 1243 bags of litter were collected from public spaces during the month, with teams also undertaking:
- Extensive grass cutting and verge maintenance.
- Tree pruning and hedge maintenance.
- Weeding and litter collection programmes.
- Cleaning of stormwater manholes and riverbank areas.
Following 148mm of rainfall, including 88mm recorded overnight during a single weather event, clean-up operations focused on litter accumulation along riverbanks and drainage systems.
Greening Projects Enhance the Precinct
Environmental and landscaping teams continued improving public spaces across the estate. Highlights included:
- New gardens installed in Kubu Park Close.
- Renewal of gardens throughout the precinct.
- Alien invasive vegetation control along wetland areas.
Security Upgrades Strengthen Surveillance Network
September also saw further investment in precinct security infrastructure. Following the recent Riverhorse Close camera installation, the control room was upgraded with two additional monitoring screens, while older CCTV cameras continue to be replaced as part of an ongoing technology upgrade programme.
Coordinated Security Response Maintains Stability
A major test of precinct security partnerships came during an illegal security personnel strike on Riverhorse Road. Through coordinated intervention between SAPS, Metro Police, Public Order Policing, precinct security and tactical support units, the disruption was contained and normal operations restored quickly.
