Members are advised of water supply interruptions currently being experienced across areas supplied by the Northern Aqueduct, following a major leak near the M25 Highway near Duffs Road in the Mount Moriah area.
eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that the Northern Aqueduct was isolated on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, after severe flooding at the site impacted all three pipelines. This isolation was necessary to allow dewatering and the safe diversion of water, so that repair teams could access the affected area.
Repair work is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, once the site has been sufficiently dewatered.
It is anticipated that repairs will be completed by midnight on 22 July 2026, after which refilling of the affected reservoirs will begin. Water supply will be restored progressively, and recovery times will vary depending on reservoir levels and consumer demand.
Residents and businesses supplied by reservoirs fed from the uMngeni-uThukela Water Durban Heights Water Treatment Works via the Northern Aqueduct are likely to experience water supply interruptions during this period.
